Hi everyone! I’d like to talk about a pest that we’ve all had at home. In our offices, on our patios and decks, restaurants – just about everywhere.
Flying insects! House flies, fruit flies, gnats, etc…they all stink! And guess what? That’s exactly how you have to treat them. Like stink! Just like a bad odor. Let me explain…
When we enter a room and there’s a bad odor, what do we do? Well of course we try to recognize the smell and look around so we can get rid of it. We check the garbage cans, the baby’s diaper, have we stepped in anything? Check the milk! We all know the checklist. When we finally discover the source of the odor we eliminate it. Problem solved. Simply put, identify the source and eliminate it.
Well most flying insects are the same!
Fruit flies in the kitchen?

Check the bananas, the fruit bowl, the garbage cans, stored vegetables, perhaps a basket of damp dish towels under the sink? Did a vegetable get away during a dinner prep and roll under a cabinet? Be the detective and conduct your investigation. You are going to find something!
Find your source and eliminate it!
House flies?
They breed in dead, decomposing matter. Gross, but true. An odor will always bring you to the source so follow your nose! If they’re coming in from outside, make sure your doors and windows close properly, screens are in good repair, and garbage cans are away from the house. Walk around the house looking for dead animals (something may have been hit by a car and crawled into your bushes to die). Sad and ugly, but it happens.
Find your source, eliminate it, and your problem will fly away!
There are many other nuisance flies we all have to deal with at some point and if you adhere to my “identify the source and eliminate it” strategy you’ll be miles ahead of the game!
